Good morning Sacramento Valley! the birds are chirping, and the flowers are in bloom. This is one of the most problematic times of year for old plumbing. As the temperature rises tree roots start searching for water. Inevitably it will find a pipe, whether it is a water pipe or a sewer pipe, unfortunately that isn't the only worry. Old galvanized and cast-iron pipes above ground also react to rising temperatures. Old water heaters, tankless water heaters, you name it. It is the expansion caused by warmer weather. The opposite happens in the fall, as cooler weather starts to make metals contract. This is why I recommend preventative maintenance and plumbing inspections at these times of year. Having your plumber identify future problems, or finding existing problems, can save you a lot of hassle in the future, and giving you time to budget and plan.
